You are selling time in this business. Whatever you can do to increase efficiency without sacrificing quality must be done. Aprons are a key contributor to efficiency. Appreciatively, adding aprons as a tool in your company also increases the level of quality. A third benefit to aprons is the saved energy for your cleaners. Cleaning a home without an apron is like running a company without a phone. It can be done, but why would you?
Find aprons that will meet the needs of your cleaning process. Most cleaners prefer the half aprons. Plan a meeting where you will kick off the distribution and use of aprons. This would be a great time to also put a cleaning process in place, if you do not have one. Just distributing the aprons without showing them how to use them is a waste of time. The aprons will never be used. They need to see and feel the benefits.
Each new cleaner should be issued an apron and showed the advantages of the apron, not to mention that it is required as part of their uniform. The same process will need to be followed with your current staff if they are not using aprons now. Explain to them that every professional in the service industry utilizes an apron to make their jobs easier. Electricians wear aprons. Waitresses and bar tenders wear aprons. Lab technicians and doctors wear jackets with large pockets. A cleaner will save more than a week, actually 7 days of backtracking steps that they will not need to make because they have an apron to hold all of the things they need to clean a home without being tied to their bucket. Think of how much easier their jobs will be and then convince them of that.
If you do not see your cleaners in the client’s homes often then be sure to check each paycheck period that they still have their aprons. In all probability you will know this before you need to check because the efficiency and quality will have dropped since they stopped using their aprons, but there is a chance you can ‘beat the problems to the punch’. Every pay day our cleaners had to bring in their aprons and the 5 tools that went with the aprons. If they don’t have the tools they cannot be following the system.
